Prepare yourself for some serious house envy tonight on RTÉ One..

The Home of the Year is a new show where gorgeous homes across Ireland compete to receive the title of ‘Home of the Year’.

In terms critiquing the homes, interior designer Hugh Wallace, architect Declan O’Donnell and homeware designer Helen James will be on hand with their expert eye. They’ll be examining the 21 contenders who have all added some form of originality to their houses.

In the first programme of the show tonight, the judges will explore an extended cottage in Tipperary, an architectural gem in Kildare and a city terraced property with character. It’s probably worth mentioning that this show may make you want to remortgage your own home in order to do some improvements…
