Thankfully, we’re here to guide you on some of the best regular pub quizzes in Dublin, on the outskirts of the city as well as right in the heart of town.
With many taking place on weeknights, a pub quiz is a perfect way to flex your brain muscles after a long day at work. Plus, you get the added bonus of enjoying a few drinks while taking part and who knows, you and your mates could even head home with a top prize. Fingers on the buzzers and let’s get started:
14. Mary’s
Location: Wicklow Street
Day: Monday
I’m of the humble opinion that Monday is the perfect night of the week for a quiz. It’s a way of offsetting the back to work blues, and a chance to feel smug and superior after getting one (1) question right. The quiz night at Mary’s Bar and Hardware Shop combines laughter, pints, and epic trivia. Tickets cost just €5 – this price includes a table for four people. Mary’s is dog friendly too, so you can bring your pooch along.

13. The Woolshed

Day: Monday
Free to enter, the pub quiz at The Woolshed gets underway at 9pm. There are prizes up for grabs for both the top AND bottom teams, so all skill levels are recognised. You can play on your mobile, alone or with a team.

Days: Monday
From the bathrooms to the beermats, everything in Jackie’s is 90s-inspired – so it probably won’t surprise you to hear that their weekly pub quiz is all about the 90s too. Test your nostalgia knowledge with themes like 90s Fashion, 90s video games, Seinfeld & Spice Girls, enjoy free entry and pizza and a pint for €15 to accompany.

11. Barbers Bar

Day: Tuesday
If you find yourself in the D7 area, Barber’s Bar is a great shout for a pub quiz. It’s free to enter, max five people to a team, with four rounds, and a free round of drinks to be won. You can bring your dawg with you too- they just can’t help you cheat.

10. The Circular
Location: Rialto
Days: Wednesday
A great boozer that has the added benefit of housing the always excellent Coke Lane Pizza. This is a different style of quiz with the lovely host using screens to show the questions, which have more of a popular culture bent with an emphasis on memes and videos and less on general knowledge or current affairs. Their weekly quiz takes place every Wednesday from 7pm and consistently sells out so don’t delay – you can buy tickets at €7.50 per entrant right here. (Trivia-loving dogs are also welcome).

9. Slattery’s
Location: Beggars Bush
Day: Wednesday
On every second Wednesday, this quiz is hosted by comedian Brian Gallagher and promises a solid mix of questions from the silly to the serious. The first 5 tables to join get 4 Jameson per table, and there’s a nice cash prize for the overall winners.

Days: Wednesday
We could almost do a separate list for dog-friendly Dublin pub quizzes at this rate and reader, we may just. Whether it’s live music, stand-up or their weekly pub quizzes, there’s always something happening at this vibe-y suburban haunt. Pye also has a great pub grub menu and a vending machine for dogs (yes, you read that right) to ensure sustenance for all.

7. McSorley’s

Day: Thursday
The McSorley’s pub quiz kicks off like clockwork every Thursday at 9pm – There’s no funny business in McSorley’s as they use ‘Professional Quiz Hosting software’. It’s free to enter and the prizes are on the chunkier end of things, first prize €100, 2nd and 3rd €50, 4th and 5th €25.
6. The Square Ball
Location: 45 Hogan Place
Day: Thursday
If you’re on the other side of town, The Back Page’s southside cousin The Square Ball hosts Quizness on Thursdays. Free-to-enter booking is not essential but definitely advised and prizes vary from Riverdance on DVD to vouchers and pints.

5. The Fourth Corner

One of the city’s most welcoming dive bars, The Fourth Corner is a great spot to while away a couple of hours. This Dublin 8 haunt hosts regular themed quiz nights, whether it’s Father Ted or a quick-fire environment you personally excel in. Their weekly quiz is a “speed quiz” which you do via a mobile app, and given the time constraints undoubtedly adds and extra very enjoyable dimension to the quizzin. It’s also free in- which is a massive plus!

Quizness at The Back Page takes place on Friday and Saturday nights and is the perfect way for quiz fiends to kick off the weekend. Dublin’s newly opened non-alcoholic bar has you covered with an extensive roster of events, from Chess tournaments to their weekly pub quiz and music bingo extravaganzas every Friday and Saturday. There’s a great pizza menu too, over 200 board games to play for free if you’re not stimulated enough after a night of quizzin’ and yes, they’re dog friendly.

McGowan’s Pub has a Smartphone Quiz every Sunday for speed quizzing and prizes every Sunday at 8pm. Their quiz is then followed by live music from 9pm and a live DJ at 11pm if you want to make a night of it.
