Missing Batteries? These Dublin Shops Are Open On Christmas Day

No need for the scream emoji!

The important thing about Christmas, the really important thing about Christmas, is the little packet of four A4 batteries taped to the top of the wrapped boxes, without which there is much crying, wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Forgotten to stock up before the big day?

Never fear, even with all Tesco and Dunnes Stores closed for Christmas Day, there are a few spots you can pick up batteries, milk or any other last-minute forgotten essentials...

Topaz

Your best bet if you’re stuck for batteries or indeed petrol is, well, a petrol station. Topaz shops across the county will be open on Christmas Day.

There aren’t many in the city centre, but they’re not very far away either – try out by Dublin Port, Cabra Road (very easily accessible), Kilmainham on the South Circular, Donnybrook or Glasnevin, then they’re pretty evenly spaced around the county.

Applegreen

Similarly with Applegreen, though some of these have much larger shops.

The interactive map on their website is close to useless, but again once outside the city centre, there are plenty that will be open: Clonskeagh, Inchicore, Finglas, Blackrock, then up and down the coast, out the Naas Road, or on the way out West.

Check out all the locations here.

Centra Parnell St/Dame St

If you are in the city centre though, there are still a handful of places you can go.

The tricky thing is that the usual convenience stores like Centra are each run independently, meaning all their opening hours are different and there’s no central way to find out the Christmas times.

However, there will be a few dotted around the city open, but at the very least, Centra on Parnell Street and Dame Street will both be open from 10am to 2pm.

Spar New Street/Dame Street

Similarly with Spar stores. Apparently the large Spar on Dame St don’t even have an actual front door, so they are essentially always open (or at least that’s what they claimed on the phone).

The new Spar – formerly Londis – on New Street, just down from Patrick St (note the Patrick St. Spar will not be open), similarly will be open from 10am – 6pm

Colm’s Deli Grocery and Newsagents

We can’t confirm that this tiny, old-fashioned grocers on Townsend St in D2 will definitely be open on Christmas Day as they have no website, Facebook page or phone number listed, but rumours abound that they tend to open on Christmas Day for a few hours to sell the basics.
