People are incredibly angry and frustrated by the government’s reaction to the current situation at Apollo House.
Having been occupied by activist group Home Sweet Home to house Dublin’s at risk homeless, especially during the winter months, the city council has granted permission to demolish the building.
The receivers of the building are at the High Court this very morning seeking injunctions against those currently occupying the building on ‘health and safety’ grounds.
The public seems to deem this an absurd argument, as many have pointed out that this building was allowed stand idle for the past six years without being destroyed, so it’s surely safer than having these people sleep out in the rain and cold.
Here’s what the people of Twitter have had to say on the whole situation.
Irony of Irish state who this year spent 50 million commemorating citizens who also ‘illegally occupied’ buildings in 1916 #apollohouse

Fairly twisted logic of the receiver thinking of health & safety of homeless so want to remove them to sleep on streets #apollohouse #dubw

Receivers moved quickly. Why don’t they make the building safe if they’re genuinely concerned for the occupants and safety? #apollohouse

Those saying #ApolloHouse is unsuitable or unsafe – is a doorway or a bench more suitable? Safer? Which would you prefer? #homesweethome

Our gov is a joke, if they don’t care to end the homelessness crisis why are these people stopped for actually making a change #apollohouse

When banks were in crisis there was emergency an Dail midnight sitting to give them billions. Nothing for citizens in crisis. #apollohouse

As the centenary year draws to a close #HomeSweetHome is a reminder that the Ireland of equals envisaged has not been realised #ApolloHouse

It is embaressing but inspiring what #apollohouse #HomeSweetHome CAN acheive in a few days when the #Dail failed for decades. #CBLive #vinb

#apollohouse The Empire Strikes Back. Building that’s been lying idle for 6 years suddenly needs to be demolished.?

Funny how ‘health & safety’ worries about homeless people in buildings evaporate when they sleep outdoors. #apollohouse

Activists are asking the public to gather outside the High Court to show their support for the occupation of Apollo House at 10.30am this morning.
