Here Are 4 Cool Movie Screenings To Keep You Entertained This Month

Alana Laverty

Did you cancel your Netflix subscription at the first hint of sunshine last week?

SAME. But fear not, because there are some kick ass movie screenings on this month that you can enjoy while letting your inner social butterfly spread his or her wings!

Kick back and chill in Merrion Square at the outdoor cinema or head out to The Botanical Gardens for a movie, some flowers and culture. Dreamy.

The Queen of Ireland

Where: Merrion Square

When: 7.30pm, Thursday, May 19th

Plot: How have you not seen this yet? It may be a documentary but it’s more like an addictive reality TV show starring the magnificent Pandora ‘Panti’ Bliss. Darling.

Why you should go: Because it has been a year since Ireland voted yes to marriage equality, and if that’s not cause for celebration we don’t know what is.

There’ll be some grub, music and a panel discussion with Panti herself, amongst others. Entry to the park is a fiver but remember there’s no drankin’ allowed. Get your ticéidí here and don’t forget to bring a blankie so you can keep warm when the sun goes down.

Million Dollar Arm

Where: The Botanical Gardens, Glasnevin

When: 7.30pm, Friday, May 20th

Plot: It’s a Disney movie about a sports agent who uses dodgy tactics to recruit Indian cricket players to playing Major League baseball. It got a 7.1 rating on IMDB, which ain’t bad. Plus if you’re not sold yet, it stars the dreamy Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame.

Why you should go:  Tickets are only €7 for this one and all proceeds go to the Irish Softball Women’s National Team which is pretty cool! You can prebook tickets through their Facebook event

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Where: The Sugar Club, Leeson Street

When: 8pm, Sunday, May 22nd

Plot: If the title didn’t give it away this one’s basically about a lad skipping school for the lolz.

Why you should go:  Because the movie is nostalgia central. And, the tenner tickets also includes some gourmet popcorn to munch – NOM. Get your tickets here.

The Godfather

Where: Lighthouse Cinema Smithfield

When: 8.30pm, Tuesday, May 31st

Plot: Gangstas, murder and revenge. Enough said.

Why you should go: Because this is an offer you can’t refuse. The screening is part of The Lighthouse’s ‘De Niro VS Pacino’ screenings starring two of the greatest actors of the silver screen. Check it out here.

They’re also holding a Godfather marathon where you can binge watch the entire trilogy in one sitting for €21 later on in June. You can buy tickets for the marathon here, it sounds bloody delightful. Emphasis on the bloody.
