In between your Christmas shopping, of course..
Storm Desmond has just about finished up, but the great emotional swirl of Christmas anxiety is only kicking in... With presents and social events demanding your attention, this can be one of the most hectic times of the year unless you have a solid game plan.
It's with this in mind we've devised a short guide to some of the best events taking place this weekend!
Techno Bash Presents: The Climax Night
Techno visits Voodoo Lounge one last time
After five years of thrilling Dublin with massive techno parties, Boxxevents and Loco Crew Projects are bidding farewell to giving you guys the biggest nights in the city. But before they go, they're having one final blowout. To give thanks to all the venues, artists, DJs and everyone who attended the nights, they're making this one final party to remember.
Over 18s only. Valid ID required.
Settle into an evening of poetry and song and perhaps even shed a winter’s tear or two as Seán Dennehy shines a light into some of the darkest corners of Yuletide tidings. Clare born poet Dennehy is a former All Ireland Poetry Slam champion whose work generally explores time, place, love, loss and longing. Christmas Pieces is a festive follow up to his unmissable show Pieces, which also took place in the Project Arts Centre during March of this year.
Along with Seán Dennehy, Tim Dennehy and Irene O’Mara will perform a selection of music and spoken word focusing on lost love and remorse in a show designed to inject some hope into the midst of even the bleakest midwinter night.
Dublin Roller Derby Intraleague
Catch the furious new sport taking Ireland by storm
They roll round the rink with the greatest of ease, those daring young girls with the pads on their knees...Well, not "ease" exactly. With full contact brawling, rocket fast action and a carnival atmosphere, Roller Derby is fast, furious and a whole load of fun. Ireland’s very first Roller Derby League, Dublin Roller Derby are committed to bringing this exhilarating sport to the Irish. Don't miss a chance to see it in person. Entry free for under 12s.
Pop Up Yoga At Smithfield Market Square
Don't stress about the Crimbo shopping, drop in for pop-up yoga
Squeezing yourself through the crowds, fighting with old ladies for the last gifts in the shop – Christmas shopping can be a right stress. Don't worry about it. The folks at Hush Yoga are hosting a little pop-up. Relax, stretch, take a deep breathe and forget all about the hustle and bustle outside. Although not completely, obviously, you still need to do it. It'll just be a nice break. Please wear appropriate clothes for yoga. Yoga mats are provided.
Smithfield Fair Pop-up Cinema: Miracle On 34th Street
An ideal treat for the kids if you're heading into Smithfield for this big market this weekend!
When Doris Walker desperately searches for a replacement Santa to be in the famous Macy’s Christmas Parade, she hires Kris Kringle, who insists he’s the real deal. His sceptics (including Doris’s 6-year-old daughter, Susan) claim it couldn’t be true. He takes to the courts to prove it and what happens next truly is a Miracle On 34th Street. What better way to start your Christmas, than with this fantastic remake starring Richard Attenborough. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
You need to be registered to book, but rest assured, it won't cost you a penny!
