A Dublin Driver Was Arrested For Extremely Dangerous Behaviour Last Night

Alana Laverty

Operation Surround officers were out in force in Dublin last night.

The initiative known as ‘Operation Surround’ involves a series of high visibility Mandatory Intoxicant Testing checkpoints carried out simultaneously.

Last night’s targets?

Rathfarnham and Swords – where Gardaí tested over 270 drivers of which six were arrested.

Five were arrested for being under the influence of alcohol while one driver tested positive for cocaine use.

Horrifyingly irresponsible, idiotic and careless behaviour by all 6 people putting others at risk.

The penalty for drug-driving is the same as for drink driving – a maximum €5,000 fine and up to six months’ imprisonment on summary conviction.

The minimum disqualification is one year and the maximum is six.
