Passengers on the Luas were shocked as a man stepped onto the tram with a belt of machine gun bullets last night.
Around 11pm the man got on the Red Line at Jervis Street before he sat down, opened a brown metal box and removed the bullet belt. He then wrapped the bandolier around his neck and fell asleep, apparently under the influence.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Liveline with Joe Duffy, one witness named Jackie Roche described the incident,
“It was really unusual. I was kind of in shock when I got off the tram, I couldn’t believe this happened.”
According to Independent.ie, when the man exited the Luas at Heuston Station he was picked up by gardai on suspicion of carrying live ammunition. Further inspection revealed they were in fact spent cartridges.
