The city is buzzing with excitement for the weekend, between Valentine's Day and Ireland vs France it seems like everyone's got some sort of plans for the weekend. Dry January's a distant memory, the evenings are a whole lot brighter as you leave the office, and things are looking pretty great.
However, amidst all this excitement for the most romantic day of the year, people are getting caught up with two sentiments: 'Relationship or not, I fucking hate Valentine's Day' or 'Shit, my boyfriend/girlfriend apparently has an unreal present for me and I have no idea what to get them, STRESS!'.
What we're not focusing on is that Valentine's Day is a celebration of love - like yeah you might love your other half but you also love Netflix, or you love putting Minstrels in your popcorn, or having a huge glass of red wine at the end of a long day.
Hunt & Gather, one of our favourite artistic collectives in the city, have organised a night out on Valentine's Eve harnessing this idea. They'll be celebrating all the things that they love - blanket forts, secrets, cheesy power ballads, and games of truth or dare. Strangelove will be about everything that you love, housed in a secret Georgian building complete with a whopper dancefloor and a stunning conservatory.
The event will be BYOB, open 'til pretty late and all attendees are encouraged to dress as their Strangelove alter ego - with a makeup artist on site to fix up anyone who came unprepared. In terms of music there'll be 3 DJs playing on the night, including Rocky T Delgado, Mother resident and king of all things synthpop, as well as burlesque dancers. There'll be a virgin cocktail bar where you bring the alcohol, and they shake up with whatever your heart desires.
I don't know if we can handle so many incredible things in just one evening.. But it's amazing nights like this that break up the monotony of the club scene in Dublin, and we for one, are massive fans. Hunt & Gather, will you be our Valentine?
