Mid-June brings with it a wonderful celebration of James Joyce in the form of The Bloomsday Festival, which takes place from Thursday June 11 to Tuesday June 16 this year.
Over the course of the festival you can live as Leopold Bloom did with everything from Georgian High Tea to walking tours of Leopold’s favourite haunts. However, one event in particular caught out eye – Happenings are hosting a Bloomsday Train Tour of Dublin Bay on a specially decorated private DART.
The experience begins with a tour of Dublin’s best known Bloomsday haunts, before hopping on the Ulysses Express at Pearse Street Station to Sandycove where you can embrace the views of the Bloomsday Bay. There will be boaters, moustaches, readings, songs, appetisers of the time and plenty of surprises over the course of the day! Tickets cost €15, and can be purchased here.
Why not take a long lunch, and hop on the Ulysses Express next Tuesday? As Joyce said – “Think you’re escaping and run into yourself. Longest way round is the shortest way home.”
