Bad news for those of you who drive along the quays to work…
Dublin City Council is planning on introducing extra bus lanes along the north quays. While this is great news for buses, it’s dreadful news for cars – as these proposals would radically reduce car access to the city centre.
The plan is to use two out of the three lanes on Ormond Quay and Bachelors Walk for buses, leaving just one for cars. According to 98fm, this will go out to public consultation next week.
Another annoyance it would cause motorists, is that this action would stop cars from turning right at Bachelor’s Walk onto O’Connell bridge, and banning cars entirely from going straight ahead, onto Eden Quay.
To get to the south side of the river, road users would have to resort to taking a loop up O’Connell Street and around Parnell Street, or turning right at Capel Street Bridge.
The controversial plan could come into effect as soon as August of this year, and doesn’t require the approval of Dublin city councillors.
