Have you ever walked into a bar or restaurant, seen that the only seats left are at the bar, and turned around and walked out?
Maybe it's the way staff pitch the seats - "I only have seats at the bar" - that makes us think of the high stools as the second-best option.
Well, according to top Dublin restaurateur Damien Quinn, the bar is actually the "best seat in the house".
We popped in last week for a sneak peek at new Temple Bar restaurant Crow Street co-owned by Damien and David Coffey, when Damien gave us the pro-tip.
He said:
"Of course it's the best seat in the house. A good mixologist will always make a drink to the last millilitre, but if there is a little bit of overflow, if you're sitting at the bar you'll be the first person to get it.
"It's also a good way to see drinks being made, you might get to taste drinks and get a little bit of insight from the mixologist as well.
"You always feel a little more special sitting at the bar."
Damien and Dave have incorporated this idea into the design of their cocktail bar on the first floor of their two-storey Temple Bar gem.
"The beer taps are at the back so that people sitting at the bar aren't obstructed.
"It also creates a bit more theatre with the cocktails on the counter space. We encourage people to sit at the bar."
Crow Street is open seven nights a week for dinner from 5 - 11pm.
