Bewley's Café Grafton Street Announces They Are Closing Their Doors

It was announced this morning that Bewley's Café on Grafton Street will be closing its doors next month and making its 140 staff redundant.

The Irish Times reported that it will reopen the ground floor only of the café in September of this year after a €1 million refurbishment of the protected building. Opening hours will be reduced and 70 employees will be hired. The company had been making losses of €1.2 million and chief executive John Cahill claimed the only option to keep the business from permanent closure was to invest in rejuvenating the café. When the café reopens it will focus its menu on what it built its reputation on: tea, coffees and cakes. While its awful to hear of the job losses and that the such an iconic Dublin business is closing its doors, we're at least glad to hear that they're trying their best to keep the business from closing permanently.
