Devastating News – Berlin Café Is Closing Its Doors For The Last Time This Month

  It was the news that none of us wanted to hear, but that we kinda knew was bound to happen. Amid endless rumours of international mega-chains eyeing up the premises (and offering sky-high rents for the privilege), Berlin d2 finally confirmed today that it will be closing its doors for the last time on the weekend of May 21/22. The café, perched on the corner of Coppinger Row and Clarendon Street, was praised for bringing something truly different to a part of Dublin that's never been short of great places to pick up a coffee. With excellent music, live DJs, and a real European café-bar vibe that the city desperately needs more of, it will be very much missed. In an email today, they said:

"We really just want to go out on a positive note and hold our heads high. We did an amazing job and ran a successful business for two years, offering a place for music, DJs and creatives to explore their talents."

And that wasn't all – their dedication and support for Irish suppliers was also second-to-none, working with local producers and brands such as Blazing Salads, CupCake Bloke, Java Coffee, La Maison, and Paleo Man. But at least they're going out with a bang. According to the team:

"We have a selection of our DJs playing over the weekend with John Reilly, Mikee, Platinum Ray, Vlad Miler Jnr, and the Initial Drum and Bass crew closing off the weekend on the Sunday night. "The Saturday night is the main night of music and mayhem and we ask customers to come and party with us one last time."

And if that's not enough, it will all be for a good cause too – they'll be selling off their chairs, which have been painted by staff member Cian, in aid of the Dublin Simon Community.

Sad times. But, in fairness, what a way to go...
