The Dublin band Heroes in Hiding have just been named winner of 2fm’s Play The Picnic with Oxfam 2015 and are set to play this September.
Heroes in Hiding are a Dublin based alternative folk-rock quartet, the band won the competition with their track ‘Today, I Mean It’ from their second album Decorated Absence.
Cian Donohoe, the band’s drummer, says they are blown away by the result:
To be on the same bill as Florence and the Machine and Blur is incredible. There are bands on the line-up we have listened to since we were kids, some of whom have shaped us into the musicians we are now. Also, when so many people get behind you and support you, it really gives us the belief to keep doing what we are doing.
Heroes in Hiding went up against nine other finalists in the competition to come out on top: Ae Mak, Aine Cahill, El Grey, Just Mikey, Monster Monster, Neev Kennedy, Seo Linn, White Boys and Wolves of Youth.
Giving unsigned, hardworking bands the chance to showcase themselves at Ireland’s biggest music festival, Electric Picnic, is what 2fm’s Play The Picnic with Oxfam is all about […] The calibre of entrants in this year’s competition just goes to show that Ireland has a thriving and eclectic music scene to rival that of any country in the world.
Dan Healy, Head of 2fm
A public text vote determined Heroes In Hiding as winners of 2fm’s Play The Picnic with Oxfam, with all proceeds from the text vote being donated to Oxfam Ireland and helping to save lives overseas, with contributions going to the emergency response in Nepal.
Not only will the Dublin band get to perform on The Cosby Stage, Heroes in Hiding will also get to participate in master classes with two of the best experts in Ireland’s music industry: Festival Republic Managing Director, Melvin Benn and 2fm Director of Music and Sound, Mark McCabe (that’s right, the Maniac 2000 guy).
The band will take to the Cosby Stage at Electric Picnic 2015 between September 4 and 6 at Stradbally Estate in Laois. Click here to find tickets for the event.
