Dublin May Be Getting A Brand New Food Market – And Here’s All You Need To Know

Reports that an urban food market worth upwards of €3 million could be gracing Dublin's city centre are coming in this morning. The market itself is set to be located in St Andrew's Church on Suffolk Street.

Yep, the one with Molly Malone outside.

According to The Herald, businessman Michael Wright, owner of the Wright Venue in Swords, is hoping to gain planning permission in order to 'breathe new lift' into the city centre venue. The Dublin 2 church, which dates back to 1860, has also apparently been eyed up by members of U2 at one stage. 

Failte Ireland moved in instead, but failed to use the building to its full potential.

The church, which closed for worship in 1993, did once house Fáilte Ireland, until they moved out following the failure to use the building to its full potential. 

Wright has ambitions for the market to sell food, alcohol and also offer social aspects to the community such as music, demonstrations and a full multimedia auditorium.
