The Irish Independent has shared a video which shows a taxi driver being punched repeatedly in the head in Dublin.

The city centre attack took place on Thursday evening and shows the attacker approach the vehicle, hit the driver three times with his fist before making a quick exit.

The incident happened on O'Connell Street and it is said that the man ran in the direction of the quays.

The video shows cyclists gathering around the taxi after the attack to see if the driver is okay.

Lovin has reached out to the Gardaí for a statement on the matter, while Dublin Taxi Drivers Facebook page described the attack as "shocking".

The 46-second long video has been posted on The Irish Independent's Youtube channel and can be found here.
