Noooo – Dublin’s Dream Dart Underground Hit With Crushing Blow

Darragh Berry

Remember how happy we were when the news was announced that we were going to get our very own underground DART?

Well, we don’t know how to break this to you. Just maybe sit down for a minute first…

…comfortable? Okay.

The Sunday Times (subscription needed) is stating the Transport Minister, Shane Ross, has confirmed that the underground will not be built in the next ten years.

That’s right, no Metro underground before 2028 at least.

The reason? The Government does not have the €4 billion needed to fund it.

The main feature of the underground is a line from Inchicore on the south side to Spencer Dock on the north – a 7.6Km tunnel that Dublin badly needs.

“It’s not going to happen within ten years anyway at all, that decision has been made The route will be protected but there is not going to be any intention of actually building this in that period of time,” Ross told the Oireachtas.

This means that over 50 years will have passed since the idea was first conceived in the 70s.

Oh well, we might see it someday in our life time, maybe?
