Dublin’s Best Coffee As Selected By…Dubliners

niallharbison

Every city has good coffee and although I’ve already selected my best in Dublin I thought limiting you all to one place just wouldn’t be fair. With that in mind I wanted to pot the question out to the foodies following the blog on Twitter and see what they thought. I don’t know about you but coffee plays such an important role in my life now that I can’t start the day without it. Come to think of it I can’t even start the afternoon without a second cup. The whole country is moving away from a pub culture to a cafe culture and walking down any street in the morning you are sure to see every second person holding a takeaway paper cup full of their favorite daily dose. Coffee is here to stay and here are some of the best cups that Dublin have to offer…

What The Locals Say

Everybody including myself has their own opinion about the best coffee in any one city but finding a consensus can be tough. I asked people on Twitter and with 50 odd replies you can be pretty confident you’ll find a good cup from this list and if you look through it you’ll see the same places popping up over and over. Take your pick…

The Hot Spots

Some of the same names keep popping up in that list and just to add a few more in here are a selection of what I would see as the “must have” cups of coffee in Dublin. Hopefully you won’t take it upon yourself to have them all in one day but there are seven here so maybe grab a Dublin bike and try one for every day of the week.

The Smallest – Nicks Coffee

You couldn’t even really call this a shop as it is more of shed than anything. There is a bit of outdoor seating but this is all about grabbing your coffee and having it on the go.

Up And Coming – Coffee Angel

These started out as a couple of small mobile units but over the last couple of years have grown into a small chain with shops now on South Anne Street and Pembroke Street. The makings of a new Irish coffee chain? Looks like it.

Roasted Brown

You don’t always think of Temple Bar as having the best quality food and drink but the coffee in Roasted Brown dispels that myth in spades. Like a little haven of tranquility in the madness that is Temple Bar.

Fancy People Watching – Fallon And Byrne

The coffee is awesome here but I think it is the little delicate cakes and the casual seating among a bunch of really nice vegetables that makes this so cosy. It feels like you could be sitting in New York as you sip the delicious coffee.

Trendy – Kaph

Fairly new to the scene and opened up in one of Dublin’s best foodie areas this place was always going to slot in perfectly with it’s wonderful coffee, slick design and chilled out vibe.

Awesome With A Sandwich – Cup

Anytime I ask about good coffee people always come back with Cup on Nassau Street as an answer. The central location and heavy footfall mean loads of people get to try it and their selection of food is what sets them apart. Great for a lunchtime cup.

Uber Trendy – Vice

The twisted pepper is one of those places that all the cool young things hand out in and they have seriously cool coffee to sip when they are doing all the things that cool young people do. One of the best cups in town.
