Alana Laverty

Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard and Dún Laoghaire RNLI rushed to the scene of a sinking jet ski in Dún Laoghaire harbour yesterday.

Two casualties were “hanging on for their lives”, according to Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard ‘s Facebook page, while the jet ski was 60% submerged at this stage.

Neither were wearing life jackets nor wetsuits.

Both casualties were swiftly retrieved from the water by teams and the RNLI and Coast Guard have shared this very important message:

“This was a very close call tonight and highlights the incredible decisions made by people who risk their lives by not wearing the appropriate equipment or making sure their craft is seaworthy.”

Fair play to all involved in this valiant retrieval.
