Getting a bit sick of your 9-5 desk job and daily routine? Feel like a bit of an adventure? The Clipper Race Crew are looking for someone just like you. The Clipper Race is a completely unique event that gives ordinary people, with zero sailing experience, the opportunity to sail around the world. The race is 40,000 miles long, takes almost a year to complete and stops off in unbelievable locations across the globe. Sound insane but amazing, right?

People can either sail all the way round or pick a single leg of the trip. Last year, 17 people from the 670 international crew were Irish. One Irish sailor, Conor O’Byrne, completed the round world trip. Conor is a Garda from Dublin who saved for years to do the race, took a year’s leave, and sailed around the globe. Here’s his story, and impression of the Clipper Race.

So does this sound like something you might be interested in? Spending a year sailing to Cape Town, and Rio and the stunning Whitsunday islands in Australia? If so, The Clipper Race are doing an information afternoon this Saturday in the National Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire from 10.30am. This sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime, and one definitely worth checking out if you’ve been suffering from a case of wanderlust of late.
