Exclusive: First Look At The New Steakhouse Opening In The SMS Popdown Space

Most of you guys will be familiar with Super Miss Sue, the excellent seafood joint on the corner of Drury Street and Stephen Street – and most of you will also be familiar with Cervi, the adjoining fish and chip joint that serves some of the city’s best takeaway.

But one of the site’s more hidden aspects is the Popdown space, downstairs on the Drury Street side. It’s previously served as a ‘greatest hits’ restaurant, dishing up the best from the other restaurants in John Farrell’s group (777, Dillinger’s, The Butcher Grill and SMS itself).

Now, however, it’s going to open with a special menu all of its own – as Dublin’s hottest new steakhouse.

And going by the pics and menu below, we won’t be the only ones banging the door down when it opens this Friday at 5pm…

The new a la carte menu is all about steak. Salume and sourdough (Italian charcuterie) is the order of the day; all imported ourselves. Smoked cured beef, cutedella, salami and mortadella followed by starters of chilled jumbo shrimp with cocktail sauce, oysters and a soft-boiled egg and bacon salad dressed in lardo.

Mains will be Steak grilled on our charcoal grill – rump steak, sirloin, ribeye, hanger and Iberico pork flank. A selection of sides will stick to the classics with creamed spinach, baked potato, onion rings, smoky baked beans, skinny fries and bone-marrow mash.
