Here Is Why A Submarine Was Spotted Coming Up The Liffey Yesterday

Submarines are something that you associate with war times, and not generally something that a little neutral nation like Ireland to be worrying about.

So when people started tweeting and sharing pictures of one approaching Dublin yesterday, we have to say we were a tad worried…

It turns out that the submarine was actually here as part of the 1916 centenary celebrations.

The 2,650 displacement tonnes (submerged) Royal Netherlands Navy ‘Walrus’ class submarine HNLMS Walrus was met by Dublin Port tug Beaufort off Scotsmans Bay, Dun Laoghaire Harbour. At mid-afternoon the submarine proceeded to Dublin Port.
