Today marks the fourth day of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to his ancestral home in Ireland – and if you haven’t heard, he’s in Dublin at the moment.
So far he has gone for a game of golf and some apple pie with the Taoiseach in County Mayo, he watched the Euros match in the Castlebar with Mayo native Enda Kenny…
But what has he been up to in Dublin?
Just like the rest of us, Biden needs a proper Irish ice cream fix every now and then, and he enjoys a pint every now and then.
Yesterday he kicked off the afternoon in Dublin by diving into a cone of our favourite, Murphy’s Ice Cream…

And what an important mission it was. Chances are you just missed him strolling down Grafton Street with his posse before everyone escaped from work!
Several streets in the city centre were blocked off last night to make room for rows of black SUV’s full of Biden’s crew – security, friends and family. But apparently when you’re the Vice President of the United Stated, it’s not that simple to go for a quiet pint…

Rumour has it that he ended up at Davy Byrnes, just off Dawson Street.
Any self-respecting Dubliner knows that no visit to Dublin is complete without seeing the Book Of Kells, so we’re glad to see that was first on his list this morning.
And with all the hype, they even closed off the place for his own private visit…

Returning to a heritage in which “shaped his soul” must feel quite liberating – so it’ll be interesting to see what Joe Biden will have to say in his speech at the Dublin Castle this afternoon.
Doors open at 2.30pm with musical performances begin at 3.00pm, and you can reserve complimentary tickets here.
