Shoppers have expressed outrage online as popular department store House of Fraser announces it will not accept giftcards “until further notice”.
The UK chain went into administration last Friday, and now administrators have announced that Irish shoppers will not be able to redeem House of Fraser giftcards at the Dundrum store, according to The Irish Times.
Dundrum Town Centre vouchers, which were previously accepted in the store, are also no longer redeemable.
Earlier this year, the store gave out €10 ‘Bounce Back’ vouchers with every €50 spent in store – and these are also not redeemable.
Shoppers with loyalty cards may not be able to redeem their “rewards”.
Shoppers have shared their frustration online.
Hi House of fraser ? Where will we be able to use gift cards that were issued by the Dundrum store ????? I have two giftcards and now see the store is not accepting them – can they be used online ? https://t.co/LYNFaHg0tk

If #MikeAshley wants to keep future customers happy, he will need to honour #houseoffraser #giftcards. I for one will not be happy or give him my fture custom if my credit on my giftcard is lost.

Last Friday, it was announced that the 59-store chain was acquired by Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct chain for €100 million.
The takeover does not yet apply to the Dublin-based store.
Sports Direct has declared that “it has no liability to customers in possession of existing gift cards and vouchers”, but that customers can send their cards to House of Fraser head office at Gift Cards, 27 Baker Street, London, W1U 8AH, “whereby replacements will be issued”
Be interesting to see what happens next….apparently if you are a customer with a gift card, you need to post it to their head office and can not redeem them in-store. https://t.co/zZvFgEPKzT #giftcards #housoffraser

Takeover chief executive Mike Ashley said previously: “We will do our best to keep as many stores open as possible. We look forward to turning House of Fraser into the Harrods of the High Street.”
