Sometimes it's hard to find a location for a dignified drink in the city, a place where you can have a few casual cocktails and a chat with the option of a boogie later in the night if you're so inclined. House on Leeson Street is just that. It's a swanky little spot for drinks, spread over two Georgian Houses between the canal and St. Stephen's Green. What's most remarkable about House is the eclectic décor within: a mish mash of different styles amalgamating to create a very cool interior.
While it may be more than a bit more opulent than most of our own homes, House kinda feels like home. Similar to a normal house, there are multiple rooms which you can choose to socialise in, without being restricted to one. You can chill by the log fire in the parlour, drink tea in the conservatory, clear your head in the stunning garden surrounded by olive trees, or have a bucket (my favourite type of drinking vessel) of Cabernet Sauvignon in the wine room. Each room has a function, and no matter what mood you may find yourself in, there's a spot to suit you.
If you're indecisive you could spend the rest of your life pondering over what drink to order from the bar – they have an extensive drinks menu that includes 38 different types of gin and some incredibly tasty cocktails. The Red Room however is House's shining star; it is a decadent private room, covered in soft red furnishings and lamps, which is used as a nightclub at weekends, but can also be booked for private functions. There's no sign of the standard nightclub sticky floors within the extravagant Red Room, just an extremely lovely location to have a little dance.
There's a lot of attention to detail at House, with extravagant garnishes accompanying drinks. The service is incredible; staff are not only extremely speedy but also super friendly. With live jazz music on Thursday nights from 6pm-9pm in the twinkling garden, it is the perfect way to ease yourself into the weekend. Give it a try, I think you'll find a new House away from home.
