Brú Aimsir Are Trying To Combat Homelessness In The City – Here’s How You Can Help

katedemolder

This year the homeless crisis in Dublin has unfortunately hit an all-time high.

As part of tackling this problem and making life a little bit easier for those affected, Basecamp, the outdoor store on Middle Abbey St, Dublin have started a backpack challenge.

The aim of this challenge is to get as many backpacks as possible filled and sent up to the Brú Aimsir service that is currently housing 100 homeless people every night in Thomas Street.

The backpack can be filled with items such as:

  • Hats
  • Scarves
  • Gloves
  • Fleeces
  • Waterproof jackets/trousers
  • Food vouchers
  • Flasks
  • Water bottles
  • Socks
  • Toiletries

They don’t have to be brand new either – we all have old clothes lying around that would help someone else a lot more than it’s helping you.

Basecamp can’t fill backpacks for everyone so they need a bit of help –  they have nominated two other businesses (Georges St. Arcade and Portwest) to fill some backpacks too.

You can help to raise awareness of homelessness by making a video of your nomination and get tagging your mates through social media.

Since December they’ve received over 150 packs with numbers rising all the time, but they still need more help.

Backpacks can be dropped into the Basecamp store in Middle Abbey St or dropped directly into the Crosscare Staff in Thomas St.
