Malahide has blossomed from a quaint beachside village into a self-sufficient town with a seemingly endless supply of restaurants over the past decade.
While there are plenty of key amenities that seem to be missing in action (the first butcher only opened up a year ago), they have got four French restaurants and a crêperie so who cares?
Simply jump on the DART and escape the city for a day...
For great views of the marina and a tasty tapas-style dining experience check out The Greedy Goose. This place is known for its Clogherhead crab claws which are cooked to perfection in garlic & lemon and served with chive crushed potatoes. Worth a visit for the shoestring fries alone which are so deliciously crispy yet go against everything you’ve ever been taught about making a good chip.
Kajjal is hotly debated as one of the best restaurants in Malahide with an extensive menu of Pakistani and Eastern cuisine. Let their knowledgeable and helpful staff know your flavour preferences and they’ll happily recommend the perfect dish to suit your taste. Although be wary of their spicy warnings if you value your tastebuds. They also have an impressive selection of vegetarian dishes and so many naan options, you'll be spoilt for choice!
Treat yourself to afternoon tea along with a few glasses of Prosecco at Michelin star restaurant, Bon Appetit. You won’t leave disappointed or hungry with this colourful selection of sweet and savoury treats. Each dessert is like a work of art in itself - they definitely get top marks for presentation!
Fancy some Italian? That’s Amore is serving up some of the best pizzas around - they have a great selection of toppings and they come right out of the oven with a crispy base and crust. Their risotto of the day is also a firm customer favourite and not to be missed!
SALE e PEPE is very popular among locals and known for its steak and seafood dishes. Keep an eye on the Daily Specials board for fresh and seasonal creations from the chef.
Déjà Vu is one of a kind, it lives up to its name by reminding you of that busy little corner cafe you visited when you were in Paris. They have a delicious French Brunch menu and gluten-free options are available across the board.
For something different, head along to the town’s first and only Greek and Cypriot restaurant: Cape Greko. Incredible selection of authentic dishes to choose from, ordering one of the Meze platters is a must, but you probably won't want to share!
For a true Malahide experience you should finish off the day by heading to Gibneys for pints, this is as authentic as it gets. Be warned that the concept of time is lost here and hours can easily slip by as you get sucked doing rounds with the locals.
Have one drink too many and you could find yourself in Tamango, the apparently immortal nightclub ‘where the gang still go’. The nightclub is considered a quintessential part of growing up in Malahide and we suspect that this tradition will remain as young ‘Mala-rides’ continue to show up here in force!
