Lovin Dublin City Spotlight – Kilmainham

emmakenneally

Kilmainham is a part of Dublin best known for its tourist attractions, especially The Kilmainham Gaol and the IMMA.

The Irish Museum of Modern Art hosts many incredible exhibitions throughout the year as well as events on their grounds, such as the incredible ‘Summer Rising’ last summer, and music festivals like Forbidden Fruit. A trip to IMMA at the weekends is always worth it, you can pop into the Itsa cafe afterwards for coffee and cake, or even a meal if you’re hungry! Another of the area’s top attractions is the Kilmainham Gaol which has housed some of Ireland’s most prolific political leaders, including Eamon de Valera and other 1916 Rising leaders. A tour through the gaol is well worth a visit as its hugely interesting and gives a great insight into modern Irish history. Afterwards, if the weather is fine, you’re just a hop, skip and a jump from Pheonix Park if you want to stretch your legs.

If you fancy a bite to eat after all that sightseeing then The Lime Leaf cafe is cheap, cheerful and satisfying. Scroll on to check out the photoseries shot by photographer Derek Kennedy.
