Man Armed With Hammer Arrested Following Attempted Robbery And Assault In Dublin

A 29-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged attempted robbery in Swords yesterday afternoon after 1pm. 

Dublin Live reports that the man was armed with a hammer when he entered a commercial property on the Old Swords Road where he threatened staff and demanded cash. 

The man fled the shop following an altercation with a member of staff. It is believed that he ran towards a car and assaulted the female driver before being restrained by staff and passersby. 

The woman suffered minor injuries.

Gardaí arrested the man and took him to Ballymun Garda Station where he's currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. 

Gardaí in Ballymun are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information relating to this incident to contact them on (01) 666 4400.
