Maser’s ‘Repeal The 8th’ Mural In Temple Bar Has Come Under Fire

fiodhna_hm

A few weeks ago we wrote about the giant mural Maser painted in Temple Bar, in conjunction with The HunReal Issues.

Since then the mural has come under fire from opposing groups, calling for the mural to be removed immediately, on the grounds that the Project Arts Centre is partially state-funded and that they are promoting abortion with the artwork. They have received 1,251 signatures so far.

The HunReal Issues have since released their own petition, with 2,092 signatures so far, accompanied by the following statement:

The more we talk about it, explore what repealing it actually means and what comes afterwards; how many people it has affected, and continues to affect; the less stigmatised women’s healthcare decisions and basic human rights become.

Maser offered up his time for free and any expenses incurred in the creation of the mural were covered by the artist.

So, what do you reckon – should it stay or should it go?
