Microchipping Your Dog Will Now Be A Legal Requirement In Ireland

A new law is being introduced in a bid to prevent illegal puppy farming, and to improve the lives of animals in Ireland. As of next week, every dog in the country will need to be registered and microchipped, with owners facing a €5,000 fine if they don't oblige.

According to TheJournal.ie, there are four databases on which dogs can be registered: Animark, Fido, The Irish Coursing Club and the Irish Kennel Club. 

The Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney says that the initial cost of microchipping a dog has been subsidised by the State. 

“It will act as a deterrent for those who abandon dogs and assist in identifying marauding dogs and those that pose a threat to livestock or people.”
