Yesterday wasn’t a good day for famed old Dublin institutions.
We already brought you news of Berlin’s closure – and sadly, it’s been swiftly followed by the beloved pub and music venue Sweeney’s, which faces on to Dame Street and backs on to Dame Lane just opposite The Stag’s Head.
The venue posted confirmation via a gig listing on their website, saying:
Sweeneys is closing!
To celebrate the end of the world as we know we’ll be hosting some of the best acts to have graced our stages.
Formerly known as Le Cirk, then Sweeney Mongrel, it’s the sort of place we all went to watch our mate’s band play their first gig ‘in town’.
But as of June, it will be no more.
Stop doing this to us, Dublin!
