I got to check out The Big Grill ahead of the masses today and, man, is it a haven for foodies in the city this weekend.
You don’t need to be a genius to figure out that it’s a festival dedicated to all things BBQ’d – with meat getting the majority of the focus.
As I write this I am actually stinking up the office with my clothes drenched in a delicious BBQ smell.
That smell comes from peering into huge fire pits which house everything from whole suckling pigs to salmon, lamb and chicken.
From chatting to the chefs themselves, I realise we are dealing with some seriously passionate BBQers and grillers.
Some of the fires have been going for 2 days already. And some of the chefs told me that they’ve to stay up all night returning to the park to turn roasting pigs.
What I really loved was the caveman feeling about the place, with one guy brushing down his pig with butter using a huge brush made from sprigs of rosemary.
It’s sold out Saturday but there are tickets for Sunday left. There is actually a bunch of stuff to do there besides eating huge amounts of meat. With DJs, craft beer, eating competitions and loads of room for the kids to play.
One hell of a set up and some serious fun.
Get down there.
