Alana Laverty

The planning for 2,000 new homes in Ballymun has been approved by Dublin City Council as part of the future development of the area as part of the Ballymun Local Area Plan.

The aim is to provide better infrastructure in housing for sale and for rent, reports The Irish Times

A government decision to regenerate Ballymun was made in 1997 and the plan now it to provide better infrastructure, shopping and employment opportunities in the ‘new town’.

The eventual population of the area is hoped to be around 30,000.

The delivery of Metro North is considered a key and essential component of the regeneration process.
