PICS: This Dublin Student Accommodation Comes With An Eye-Watering Price Tag

Kiara Keane

A new block of student accommodation is opening in the Point Village this week, which should be great news all round given the current rental crisis.

State-of-the-art development The Tramshed has even been called a “welcome boost to students who are struggling to find digs in the current rental market”.

The only problem is, we’re not quite sure what students can afford the hefty €1,00 a month rent to actually live there (or a lot more depending on the type of room you choose).

Classic Room Point Village

The Classic rooms start at €9,200 for a 40-week lease and go up to €11,220 for a 51-week lease.

At the top end of the scale, students can splash out on a ‘Premium Penthouse Studio’ at €18,360 for a 51-week lease.

The monthly rent of €920 for the Classic room is well above what most students can afford – never mind the penthouse studio at €1,800 a month.

People have been rightly outraged by it:

Rooms at The Tramshed come with all bills included, free Wifi, a roof terrace and are somehow almost sold out.

A further 599 beds will become available when the neighbouring Woodworks development is completed at the end of the year.
