Planning permission has just been granted for a major new development in Smithfield.
First proposed in 2007, the plan would see the part demolition of the square's Irish Distillers Building for the new 20,000 square metre commercial and retail development. It's set to be between four and seven storeys in height.
According to Newstalk.com, the project was met with much opposition over the last nine years because of the site's historical heritage, but the plan was finally accepted after it was amended to include the building's original stone walls.
