The owner of Supermac’s is said to be considering buying Coppers after news of it going on sale was announced last week.

Founder and owner of the fast food chain Pat McDonagh already owns a number of hotels and he could now be adding one of Dublin’s most iconic nightclubs to the list.

McDonagh told the Sunday Business Post he would “examine the acquisition opportunity”.

He added, “It has a special place in a lot of relationships, especially for those from the rural community.”

Hotel broker Dermot Curtin said that the original owners of Coppers nightclub, Cathal and Paula Jackson, had “decided the time is right” to retire and were happy in the knowledge that “the new owner will be inheriting a very experienced management and staff team”.

The nightclub is up for sale along with the 37-bedroom Jackson Court Hotel attached to it and is expected to sell for more than €40 million.
