People travel far and wide to be able to say they’ve tasted pure, delicious and flavoursome Irish whiskey. 

We, on the other hand, know how good we have it – and drink the stuff all the time. 

This list is for those of you who are sick of gin getting all the airtime – from now on, it’s Whiskey O’Clock. 

1. Whiskey Sour – Izakaya

The best of the best, Izakaya‘s whiskey sours are the stuff of legends. This is the strong, saporous bevvie you’ve been looking for.

2. Wee Dram – Vintage Cocktail Club

Well we couldn’t write up a cocktail list without mentioning the head honchos, would we?

The hidden spot boasts some of the best tipples in the city – and their whiskey drinks will certainly put hair on your chest. The Wee Dram boasts Jameson 12 Year, Apple Liqueur, Poire Williams, LBV Port, with Orange Oils, Cherry and a Pimento Mist.

Not too shabby, eh?

3. MacDonagh’s Last Strand – Bow Lane

With the word ‘Imbibe’ painted across the side of this Aungier Street haunt – you know this place is going to serve up one hell of a cocktail. 

MacDonagh’s Last Strand is a mix of Powers three swallows release, house made rosehip liqueur, Murphy’s red reduction, orange bitters and ginger biscuit rim, all shaken and served straight up into a chilled coupette. Dreamy. 

4. Whiskey Tasting – The Liqour Rooms

Single-handedly kickstarting the whiskey revolution, The Liqour Roomshold whiskey tasting events with a whiskey expert to show you just how incredible our national drink is. 

The tasting is €30 per person which includes the tasting session and a drink on arrival and needs a minimum of six people to work. Not too shabby at all.

5. Irish Penicillin – Exchequer Wine Bar

Trust us, it’s not as scary as it looks…

The Irish Penicillin is made with Teeling Small Batch, Connemara peated, ginger and honey
syrup, Irish honey and lemon juice.

Told you. The Exchequer wouldn’t do you wrong…

6. The Elder Pyg – Pygmalion

Whiskey, elderflower, citrus, apple, rhubarb bitters and sugar.

Music to your ears? Us too. Pygmalion‘s famous whiskey tipple is a favourite in Dublin, and you shouldn’t do any longer without trying it.

7. In The Navy – Peruke & Periwig

The winner of the Dublin Cocktail Festival back in 2015, this dreamy Peruke & Periwig concoction combines Glendalough Double Barrel Whiskey, Disaronno Amaretto, salted caramel, grapefruit, lemon and Peychaud’s Bitters

8. Darjeeling Gold Punch – The Ivy

The Ivy is the cosiest little haunt on Dame Street, serving up delicious treats as well as some really cracking drinks. 

Their Darjeeling Gold Punch is made up of Powers Gold Label, Earl Grey darjeeling tea, oleo saccharum and créme de pêche.

9. And finally, Bittersweet Symphony – The Blind Pig Speakeasy

This tangy mixture is made up of Roe & Co Irish whiskey, Amaro Montenegro, honey syrup and Bitter Truth olive bitters.

Surrounded by the setting of one of the coolest spots in Dublin – this cocktail is one for the ages.
