The Events This Weekend That You Need To Know About - Jan 9th to 11th
From plays to DJ sets, and live music to theatrical workshops, there's a bunch of fun stuff on this weekend. Here's our pick of the best...
Booker T. Jones
Booker T. Jones's knowledge of the music world, and everything within it is astounding at times. Deeply rooted in R&B, instrumental rock, soul and electric blues, he is an accomplished musician that has been around since the early 60s, starting off at just 16 years old. His Grammy for Lifetime Achievement could not have gone to a more deserving yet thankful character. This live show at the Sugar Club on Sunday evening will cover his past 50 years of musical experience, and is not to be missed.
Talking Text Workshop: She Stoops to Conquer
Why not spend your Saturday morning doing some vocal training with voice coach Andrea Ainsworth before delving into a text from the great Irish canon. This session is great for any budding actors who want to work with an amazingly talented lady. It's also an unbelievable opportunity to pick up some tricks of the trade, plus afterwards you can truthfully tell your friends and family that you've performed on the Abbey Stage.
The Walworth Farce
Three Gleesons, one play. Enda Walsh's hilarious play, The Walworth Farce receives a new lease of life as Brendan Gleeson, and his two sons, Brian and Domhnall, perform in it. A father and his two sons emigrate, hoping for bigger and better things yet end up trapped in a tiny flat together in London. The Walworth Farce is brilliantly entertaining but carries a serious message, that has become even more relevant nowadays. It kicks off in The Olympia this Saturday, make sure to book in advance, as once the previews are over this looks set to sell out entirely.
Benefit Present: Jamie Trench
As a firm believer that vinyl still has it's place in a digital world, Jamie Trench is a forward thinking DJ and producer, but has a passion for the history of house music as well its' future. Jamie's releases have turned heads in the house scene receiving plays all across the UK and Europe. He's never one to be too shy to try something different in the studio or during his sets, so his set in the Twisted Pepper on Friday promises to be a good one.
