The Picture On This Old Van Would Turn A Few Heads On Today’s Streets…

seank

Apparently, this was the name of a Dublin laundry business in the early 20th century and we must say it looks decidedly dodgy by modern standards.

Posted by the Old Pics Archive on Twitter earlier today, the picture shows a van owned by the Swastika Laundry with an actual swastika painted on the side.

Now before anyone gets upset, remember that this picture was taken in 1912, long before the appropriation of the swastika by the German Nazi party. The swastika symbol’s historical roots actually go all the way back to ancient Hinduism, which was surely the laundry owner’s inspiration.

Definitely wouldn’t be wise to put this symbol anywhere on Dublin’s streets these days though.
