There Will Be A Cannabis Smoking Protest Today In Dublin City Centre

The ongoing struggle for medicinal cannabis to be legalised is one of the most-talked-about protests in Ireland at the moment. 

Today, a huge movement of people will be gathering at the Garden of Remembrance to come together and attempt to communicate to the government that this is a need of the people, and using the substance to better your health should not be considered akin to illegal activity.

We spoke to Jack Herrer of the Dublin Cannabis Club, who gave us the run down of what's happening this Thursday, April 20:

''This year we are hosting the event in the Garden of Remembrance from 3pm where we will start with music, information stands and some games related to Cannabis information. There will be a couple of people speaking in the garden between 3pm - 6pm. At 4:20pm we plan a sit down with the crowd that has gathered and most people will light up in protest.''

''We plan to wait for people who are working to join us at 6pm and we will all walk to Leinster House and on arrival there will be a few more people speaking. The topics will include activism, personal struggles and legal battles. This year we want to break the stereotypical image and hope to represent all walks of life, we have several Cannabis clubs from all around the country travelling up to join us and be represented.''

With 2,100 people attending on Facebook, we imagine there will be a huge crowd attending. 

So, in full:

• The protest starts at 3pm at The Garden of Remembrance
• People will be lighting up in protest at 4:20pm
• The crowd will then move to Leinster House at 6pm
• The protest is expected to continue on until 8pm
