The Irish Greyhound Board has just this afternoon confirmed that Harold’s Cross Greyhound Stadium has now officially closed, with immediate effect.

According to the Echo, a statement by the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) stated that the decision to close the track was taken with regret, but it has decided to concentrate Dublin racing activities in their national stadium, Shelbourne Park, located approximately two miles from the Harold’s Cross stadium.

Because of this, the weekly racing programme will be expanded at Shelbourne Park, a location which offers twice the capacity of Harold’s Cross’ Stadium, to four days per week from next Friday, February 17.

The IGB has also confirmed that the 12 staff at Harold’s Cross Stadium will be redeployed, with special mention of their tireless work.

“We acknowledge the staff’s excellent contribution to the business over many years.”

The full statement of the closure can be read here.
