Construction begins today on a town centre for Cherrywood, bordering on Loughlinstown and Rathmichael, and it looks set for a major transformation.
The development will see the creation of nearly 4,000 homes and a new road network, as well as gas, sewage and telecoms systems.
There are also plans in the works for bars, restaurants, a cinema, and 1,300 apartments, according to Fora.ie.
The project stalled for over a decade due to the crash, but the purchase of the 400-acre site by US property group Hines about two years ago revived development.
