If you grew up in Dublin or even the Greater Dublin Area, you’ll remember back fondly of the times you gazed gladly upon classics such as Black Beauty, The Lion King, 101 Dalmations and Hook in Screen One, Savoy Cinema, O’Connell Street.
However, rumours that Screen One may be no more are sending the rumour mill into a frenzy. Rick O’Shea of 2fm was the first to ask the dreaded question on Twitter, only to be met with a huge array of distaste.
Hey @SavoyDublin @imccinemas is it true you’re closing Savoy Screen 1 and subdividing it for good?

IMC Cinemas, the umbrella company for most of the cinemas in Ireland, including the Savoy, responded to his tweet with this:
Hi Rick, we have lots of exciting things happening for the Savoy, including refurbishments&new screens like this one! pic.twitter.com/brE9ujszmo

We will be posting regular updates as and when they happen 🙂

While the news hasn’t been completely confirmed, we feel that this doesn’t bode well for their customers of yore.
Sad times for movie lovers.
