We’re on the cusp of it being ‘that time of year again’.
The time of work parties, friends returning from far flung places and naff jumpers.
Among all this reverie and Pogues-singing there can often be scant little time to catch a good gig – so now’s an ideal time to experience some quality live music before the season of hangovers, regrets and resolutions begins!
The Delorentos (Acoustic set) @ National Concert Hall
A very intriguing gig by a band well known by the nation after close to a decade of touring.
If you’ve enjoyed their gigs along the way, this acoustic switch-up should be an appetising option for a Saturday night musical pursuit.
This concert is the crown jewel of their current unplugged tour, Home Again. Booking in advance is advised!
Electric Six @ The Academy
One of the leading lights of 2000s era comedy rock.
Savagely comedic by most others standards, this is neither music to play for your mammy nor a gig to bring her to.
A sure bet for an energetic set as the band run through their subversive classics. The Academy’s intimate space seems a perfect match for their high-voltage, intense audience-act interaction approach to gigging.
Beck’s Rhythm Series presents: Thundercat
You don’t get to be bassist for both Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar without being a seriously knowledgeable musician, as well as a bit of a groover.
This concert is a great opportunity to witness this conventionally-behind-the-scenes man strut his stuff on stage.
Expect immensely impressive musical skills and some seriously cool vibes from this dude.
