U2 Are Planning A Run Of Intimate Gigs At The 3 Arena Next Summer

James Fenton

U2 are eyeing a trio of intimate gigs at the 3 Arena in Dublin next summer.

According to the The Herald, Bono and the boys will announce plans for the European leg of their Songs Of Experience tour in the new year.

The Dublin foursome are hoping to play in venues which are smaller than the arenas they have been playing recently, including Croke Park, in a bid to create a more intimate atmosphere and they view the 3 Arena as ideal.

An insider told The Herald:

“The Joshua Tree tour worked really well as a big stadium tour with impressive staging and pyrotechnics, but their new concert will have a different feel completely.

“They have described the album as a collection of intimate letters, so their choice of venue will reflect that. U2 always like to mix things up each time, it’s one of the reasons why they’re one of the best live bands, so the 3Arena is the most likely venue for them, considering the tone of the new show.”
