Watch The Moment When A 'Yes' Vote Was Officially Announced To The Crowds At Dublin Castle

Safe to say we'll be seeing this on Reeling in the Years in years to come...

Once the ballot boxes opened this morning, iIt became clear almost immediately clear that Ireland had done as we'd all hoped, and voted 'Yes' to marriage equality.

What we didn't know, however, was just how resounding this 'Yes' would turn out to be – and how this day would turn out to be an emotional journey, loaded with positivity, great feelings and an overall sense of hope for Ireland's future.

The Upper Yard in Dublin Castle became the epicentre of all this, as a crowd of 2,000 gathered at the national count centre to witness the big moment when the result was officially announced – and when returning officer Ríona Ní Fhlanghaile finally stepped up to deliver the numbers, the reaction didn't disappoint.

There's something amazing about watching something live (particularly with a dramatic interruption like at the start of this clip), knowing that you'll be seeing it on future episodes of Reeling in the Years...
