The weekend before Paddy’s Day means that there’s so much on – everything from club nights and live music to international DJ sets. If you’re on the fence, take a read of the following recommendations and see if any of them tickle your fancy!
Friday
They started off as a blog and online store doing sporadic DJ sets, and tonight This Greedy Pig launch their new record label, The Pig’s Ear. Their first release is from Irish electronic duo HYSTEREO, and to celebrate their label launch and their first release they’re having a shindig in Doughboys tonight. There’ll be sambos, beers and lots of tunes so it’s the perfect way to ease yourself into Friday night.
Super fun club night taking place over two levels of the new South William tonight. There’ll be dub and reggae in the lane, as well as house and disco in the main bar and the basement. Plenty of great music and unreal cocktails guaranteed, and only fiver entry all night long.
You may know Ella Eyre as the vocals behind Disclosure’s Waiting All Night, but this 20-year-old songstress is fast becoming a hit in her own right. You can catch her at The Academy tonight – it might be worth heading along just to say you were there once she’s hit the big time!
Saturday
A promising dream-pop trio whose members hail variously from Norway, Brazil and Ireland, All We Are focus on lush three-part harmonies and tunes that truly remove you from the moment. They’re playing The Workmans tomorrow night, and will hopefully be back for the festival circuit this summer – they’re the exact band you’d want to have playing in the background as you stretch out in the grass with a beer in your hand.
Pharoahe Monch and Boogie Blind
Formerly one half of Organized Konfusion (along with Prince Poetry), Monch has followed a fairly colourful but exciting career since branching out on his own – and even breaking free of the record industry along the way. Eminem calls him one of the best MCs on the planet, and he’ll be serving up his craft this tomorrow night in the Sugar Club.
Everybody loves a good Croatian festival, and what better than one that takes place in an ancient Roman amphitheatre. Dimensions is still a few months off but that’s not stopping the Pogo gang from organising an absolute belter of an evening to get the hype going. Belfast messers, Bicep will be in attendance as a well as a whole rake of other DJs. Things are going to get very sweaty in the Twisted Pepper. TAPS AFF!
Then once you recover from your hangover, you’ll just have one day of reality back in the office before you get another day off on Tuesday. Thanks a mill, St. Patrick – we owe you one!
