A multi-million development of the old Clery's building on O'Connell Street looks set to proceed, after an appeal against planning permission was dropped.
SIPTU had opposed the €150m project but The Irish Independent is today reporting that a deal has been struck, whereby positions will be made available to former staff once the development is reopened.
The new building will house a 176-bedroom hotel, rooftop viewing terrace, retail units and offices, with 2,500 jobs expected to be created.
Most importantly, the iconic Clery's clock will also be maintained and form part of the new structure.
Over 460 staff lost their jobs in June 2015 when the building closed unexpectedly.
